EPIC Group elects its first board
Authors of these books have spoken at EPIC events.
Writers are often so quiet their activities can only be glimpsed years later in the form of a book. But the writers who started EPIC Group are out to change all that by creating a local nonprofit organization that blazes trails to help folks who ?create, communicate and connect.?
According to Janette Turner, EPIC?s newly elected President, the nonprofit was formed because ?Write on the Sound is a fantastic event, but it?s just one weekend out of the year. EPIC supports writers year-round with free, ongoing writing groups, publishing workshops, an upcoming Open Mic series and a writing contest to encourage our NaNoWriMo writers.? Since the start of November, three of EPIC?s writers, Kim Votry, Jenn Youngblood, and Karen Heines have brought writing workshops to local students, with plans to expand next year. And the Monday morning writing group, in existence for less than a year, is almost at maximum capacity.
Other officers recently elected to the EPIC board include: Dianne O?Connell, Vice President; Judith Works, Second Vice President; Kim Votry, Secretary; and Emily Hill, Treasurer. Events and Writing Contest Committees were also formed by the State-registered nonprofit corporation, which is completing paperwork to be considered for Federal 501(c)(3) status.
?We encourage all local writers to get in on the ground floor of EPIC,? said Turner. ?This is your chance to bring your wish list and turn the writing community into a publishing draw.? EPIC?s next event is Monday morning writing group on Nov. 12 at Embellished at 10 a.m., with author Lisa Costantino speaking at 11 a.m. For more information, or to donate, visit the EPIC website.
