Young service users to help with quality
Children and young people in North Lincolnshire are to help clinicians to create positive improvements in quality of care by understanding patients? first impressions more clearly.
?The Scunthorpe children and young people?s mental health service (CAMHS), which is run by Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH), is to work with the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement to produce? The 15 Steps?, a toolkit for community-based mental health services and in particular young people?s services.
?The toolkit will provide a series of questions and prompts to guide all involved to look at the care setting through the eyes of service users to help capture what good quality care looks, sounds and feels like. It will be co-produced with patients, service users, carers, relatives, volunteers, staff, governors and senior leaders.
?Jane Catlyn, RDaSH Clinical Governance and Quality Lead for Scunthorpe CAMHS, said: ?In essence it?s about patients and staff working together to identify improvements which may enhance the patient experience, highlighting what is working well and what might be done to increase young patients? confidence.?
Jane added: ?We have already done something very similar with our ?Room for Improvement? Project in 2011. This was about seeing our workplace from the service users? perspective as they walk into our building. We often don?t notice things about our environment that may well be pivotal in putting our service users at ease and welcoming them into our service. The Institute were delighted that we had produced something so simple, and yet so effective and forward thinking.?
