It?s inevitable: When, why, and how Facebook will take on Google in search
Facebook and Google have been on a collision course for years, and their competitiveness has only increased with the release of Google+ just 14 months ago. As the service becomes more and more popular, one has to wonder how Facebook feels about the search giant encroaching on its turf. More importantly, one also has to wonder if Facebook has plans to hit Google back where it hurts.
Yet we already know that Facebook is going to be doing just that. In fact, the social networking giant has already started. Three months ago, Facebook updated the grey text on its search bar from just the word ?Search? to ?Search for people, places and things.?
Two months ago, Facebook added sponsored ads to its search results. While this is by no means as effective as sponsored results on Google, it?s certainly a start. Companies now have yet another way they can spend their ad dollars on Facebook.
This past week, Facebook added searches to its Activity Log. It?s the only type of activity in there that is being added before it can even be shared. Facebook is all about adding social layers to everything on the Internet, and the move suggests the social networking giant may one day let you share your searches with your friends.
Furthermore, Facebook co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg is no longer denying the company?s interest in search. At TechCrunch?s Disrupt conference, he was asked about many things, and search was one that he didn?t make an effort to deflect. Here?s my transcription of his answer regarding search:
You know, search is interesting. We do on the order of a billion queries a day already, and we?re basically not even trying. Right, so I mean today the vast majority of search is people trying to find people but there are also a meaningful portion of queries trying to find Pages, Brand Pages, other Business Pages, and apps. There?s a bunch of it that actually does kinda link to commercial behavior. I think there is a big opportunity there and at some point we just need to just go do that.
But you know search is interesting. It?s going in this interesting direction. The legacy around search is you get these search engines like Google and Bing and what Yahoo was doing before. You basically type in keywords and the search engine runs some magic to tell you what it thinks the answer is that matches your keyword. But I think search engines are really evolving towards giving you a set of answers. It?s not just like ?here, type in something and show me some relevant stuff.? It?s ?I have a specific question, answer this question for me.?
When you think about it from that perspective, Facebook is pretty uniquely positioned to answer a lot of the questions people have. What sushi restaurants have my friends gone to in New York in the past six months and Liked? Which of my friends, or friends of friends, work at a company that I?m interested in working at because I want to talk to them about what it?s going to be like to work there.
These are queries that you could potentially do at Facebook if we built out this system that you just couldn?t do anywhere else. And at some point we?ll do it. I do think that?s one kinda obvious thing that would be interesting for us to do in the future if we got to a state where we were excited about it.
As you can see, Zuckerberg says multiple times that search is on his bucket list. He covers the who, the what, and of course the where. Now let?s look at the when, the why, and the how.
When?
I doubt we?ll see anything major show up this year. In fact, I wouldn?t be surprised if there?s no huge search launch next year either.
Zuckerberg is in for the long-haul, and while search is definitely something he?s interested in, I think there are many other areas he wants to tackle first. Getting multiple solid revenue streams down is of course important, but as he has said many times, mobile is his number one priority. That?s why we?re seeing the new schedule for updating apps.
Search is definitely coming. Yet there?s no specific answer to the when question, and here?s why (and how).
Why?
It?s the future. Aside from the ?If Google is going to attack us in social, then we?ll attack it in search? argument, I have to agree with Zuckerberg in that social search is where search is headed.
Of course I doubt search engines will ever be replaced by social networks, but the latter will certainly eat into the former. As Zuckerberg muses, the whole point of search engines is to give you answers, and there are many questions that your friends can respond to better than an algorithm.
Therefore, if you can get an algorithm to answer questions based on what your friends say, share, and Like, then you?ll create something worthwhile. If you can create something worthwhile, chances are there?s a way to monetize it.
How?
I think Facebook will be tackling search in many, many stages. There will be days when there are larger announcements than others, but so far it looks like the company will be adding features as they see fit, testing them to see how they?re used, tweaking them accordingly, possibly killing those that don?t work, and then repeating the cycle with the next search feature. This is just how Facebook operates, and I don?t think it will be changing that for search.
There won?t ever be a FacebookSearch.com that you?ll be required to go to. There will just be more and more search functionality added to Facebook.com, as well as features that have nothing to do with search, but that result in you no longer having to search for something.
If I can get in touch with a company via Facebook, then why would I ever need to Google their website? If I can learn everything that I need to know about Mark Zuckerberg on Facebook, then why would I bother to Google him? If I can find a great restaurant to eat at, based on my Facebook friend recommendations, then why would I bother to Google for one?

Apple Website No Longer Calls Maps ?Most Powerful? Service Available
Following continued criticism of Apple Maps, CEO Tim Cook directly addressed the issue with an apology and admission that there are some excellent alternatives out there available to iOS users. With that, the Cupertino company has also made a much more low-key acknowledgment on its website by erasing its ?most powerful mapping service ever? claim from its Maps description.
As you can see in the Before and After picture above, the company made one final edit to the service?s explanation. Apple previously claimed Maps in iOS 6 was the best of the best, but after a number of scathing reports to the contrary, Apple has wised up and changed its tune on the matter. Both actions and words are speaking quite loudly for Apple at the moment.
With the last loose-end tied up, this may put the whole debacle to rest as Apple moves toward creating a more consistent experience. It was never going to be up-to-par with the more established mapping services out there, and Apple is openly conceding that quite a bit of work still needs to be done in order to offer the ?most powerful? service around.

(Where have you been?!) ?Sometimes you have to disconnect in the name of reconnecting. ?While it could totally apply to me and this blog it doesn't...well it kind of does. ?Last week I decided to disconnect from my heavy usage of Facebook, Twitter, and my usual gossip sites- even Pinterest! ?It was time for me to reconnect with myself; you know the self I was pre-baby: a wife. ?It is so easy as a first time mom to become completely absorbed in your new little bundle that you forget to tender to both relationships. ?Sometimes you aren't up for the schmoozing that comes with rekindling your former goddess. ?Hell all that extra baby weight, those stretch marks, that extraness?about your body does nothing for your desire. ?But its important to remember that you are a whole new level of bad ass and you should put your extra self even higher on that goddess pedestal. ?So now that I've convinced you to get your butt on the pedestal and reconnect, just how do you do it? ?Welp, I'm not a relationship expert so my lil tips might not work for you or be enough...but you're still reading so why not share?! ?First, get your self confidence together. ?Sure you got that extraness?going on but why not work those hips your baby gave you? ?Second, get the right gear.? Before baby you probably wore cute little pieces to highlight your assets and hide the trouble zones so why not do it now? ?Babydolls hide those tummies! ?Third, realize your hubby, boyfriend, boo, whatever will be so shocked by your enthusiasm that all of your worst fears will be for nothing! ?I can't imagine a guy turning down a chance to reconnect over stretch marks...and if they do, get a better companion. ?

Now reconnecting doesn't have to be all about adult time. ?Put baby to bed and spend as little as 5 minutes holding each other, sharing one of your favorite pre-baby memories. ?Do something unexpected. ?Does hubs always take the trash out before bed?...take it out yourself! ?Leave a little note in his pocket for him to discover at work. ?Clearly you want to make sure it won't embarrass the two of you if another person were to see it should you choose to be more vulgar with yours. ?Does it sound like you're doing a lot of work and romancing here? ?Perhaps...but if your husband is like mine and has trouble shaking the

Venus transit movie shows perspective in viewing our Solar System
ScienceDaily (Sep. 28, 2012) ? New movies of the transit of Venus on 6 June 2012, viewed from two different locations on Earth, clearly show the parallax effects that have made Venus transits so important historically. The results were presented at the European Planetary Science Congress in Madrid, Spain.
The movies compress 6 hours of observations and 5000 individual images taken by optical and solar telescopes into a 40 second video. Data gaps due to cloudy conditions produce jumps in the otherwise smooth Venus motion across the Sun disk. The observations were taken from Svalbard in Norway and Canberra in Australia, which are separated by 11600km.
When the images from the two locations are superimposed, the parallax effect (which first allowed astronomers to measure the distance between Earth to the Sun) becomes clear. Parallax means that when the transit is viewed from widely separated points on Earth's surface, Venus appears to follow a different path in front of the Sun's disc. Precise observations of the duration of the transit -- together with an accurate measurement of the distance between the observation points -- means that the distance to Venus and to the Sun can be calculated via triangulation.
The images used in the movies were obtained by members of the European Space Astronomy Centre, which is located outside Madrid. Two of the observers, Miguel P?rez Ay?car and Michel Breitfellner are on the science operations planning team for the Venus Express satellite, which has been orbiting Venus since 2006.
P?rez Ay?car said, "During the hours of the transit we were delighted by the slow, delicate, gracious passage of Venus in front of the Sun. A perfect black circle, containing a world in it, moving in front of its looming parent star. How thankful we were to witness it. Now with these movies, we can share a sense of that experience."
Breitfellner said, "In the 18th century people realised that transits of Venus could be used to measure the distance from Earth to the Sun. Teams of astronomers were sent all across the world to measure this effect. The 2012 transit has its own historical importance -- it is the first that has occurred when a spacecraft is in orbit at Venus. Science teams are now working to compare observations of the Venus transit from Earth with simultaneous observations from Venus Express."
Colin Wilson, Operations Scientist for Venus Express, said, "Planetary transits are not just of historical interest, they have acquired a new importance in the study of newly discovered planets around other stars. Because we cannot image exoplanets directly, it is only by studying their transits that we can discover whether they harbour liquid water or other potential 'biomarker' molecules like methane or ozone. The Venus transit is an example much closer to home, offering us a chance to test our understanding of how to interpret transit data. This certainly added extra interest as we watched the Venus transit in June -- particularly knowing it was our last chance that we'd have to wait until 2117 to see the next one!"

File-Sharing for Personal Use Declared Legal in Portugal
Hoping to curb the ever-increasing piracy figures in Portugal, local anti-piracy outfit ACAPOR reported the IP-addresses of 2,000 alleged file-sharers to the Attorney General last year. This week the Portuguese prosecutor came back with a ruling and decided not to go after the individuals connected to the IP-addresses. According to the prosecutor it is not against the law to share copyrighted works for personal use, and an IP-address is not enough evidence to identify a person.
Wearing T-shirts with the slogan ?Piracy is Illegal?, the movie industry sponsored anti-piracy group ACAPOR delivered several boxes full of IP-addresses of alleged ?illegal? file-sharers to the Attorney General?s Office last year.
The ?evidence? was handed over in two batches and the group demanded the authorities act against 2,000 alleged pirates.
?We are doing anything we can to alert the government to the very serious situation in the entertainment industry,? ACAPOR commented at the time, adding that ?1000 complaints a month should be enough to embarrass the judiciary system.?
However, a year later it turns out that ACAPOR?s actions have backfired and the anti-piracy group is now facing the embarrassment.
ACAPOR delivering the complaints
The Department of Investigation and Penal Action (DIAP) looked into the complaints and the prosecutor came back with his order this week. Contrary to what the anti-piracy group had hoped for, the 2,000 IP-addresses will not be taken to court.
Worse for ACAPOR, the prosecutor goes even further by ruling that file-sharing for personal use is not against the law.
?From a legal point of view, while taking into account that users are both uploaders and downloaders in these file-sharing networks, we see this conduct as lawful, even when it?s considered that the users continue to share once the download is finished.?
The prosecutor adds that the right to education, culture, and freedom of expression on the Internet should not be restricted in cases where the copyright infringements are clearly non-commercial.
In addition, the order notes that an IP-address is not a person.
The ruling explains that the person connected to the IP-address ?is not necessarily the user at the moment the infringement takes place, or the user that makes available the copyrighted work, but rather the individual who has the service registered in his name, independent of whether this person using it or not?
This means that the account holders connected to these 2,000 IPs are not necessarily all copyright infringers, similar to orders we?ve seen in the United States previously.
Finally, the prosecutor ruled that even if file-sharing for personal use would be seen as illegal, the artists themselves should explicitly declare that there are not authorizing copying for personal use.
ACAPOR boss Nuno Pereira is disappointed with the decision and he accuses the prosecutor of dropping the case because it?s the easy way out.
?Personally I think the prosecutors just found a way to adapt the law to their interest ? and their interest is not having to send 2,000 letters, hear 2,000 people and investigate 2,000 computers,? Pereira says.
Another way to frame it is that the prosecutor adapted the law in the interest of the public at large, which is generally speaking not a bad idea.
While the decision is hopeful for Portuguese file-sharers, it is still a matter of how the law is interpreted. For now, however, it is save to assume that Portugal is spared from the mass-BitTorrent lawsuits we?ve seen in the United States, Germany and the UK.

No press complaint over UK Prince Harry's naked pictures
LONDON (Reuters) - Britain's royal family said on Friday it would not lodge a complaint with the country's press watchdog over the publication of photographs showing Prince Harry cavorting naked in a Las Vegas hotel room.
Pictures of the 27-year-old prince, third-in-line to the British throne, surfaced in August on a U.S. gossip website and were later published by the best-selling Sun tabloid - the only British title to run the photos.
Harry's office in St. James's Palace said the royals had decided not to pursue a formal complaint given the prince's current deployment in Afghanistan. It said it informed the Press Complaints Commission on Thursday.
By contrast, Harry's brother Prince William and his wife Kate launched a criminal complaint against the photographer who took topless pictures of her while the couple were on vacation in a French villa.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, as the royal couple are formally known, were also seeking damages from French gossip magazine Closer, which first published the photos this month.
They have won an injunction banning the magazine from further publication and ordering it to hand the pictures over to the royal couple.
"Prince Harry is currently focused entirely on his deployment in Afghanistan, so to pursue a complaint relating to his private life would not be appropriate at this time and would prove to be a distraction," a statement from the palace said.
Harry, Queen Elizabeth's grandson, returned to Afghanistan this month to fly attack helicopters in the NATO-led war against Taliban insurgents.
"We remain of the opinion that a hotel room is a private space where its occupants would have a reasonable expectation of privacy," the palace said.
The naked photos proved an embarrassment for the family after a summer of well-received Diamond Jubilee celebrations to mark Elizabeth's 60 years on the throne and royal appearances at the London Olympics.

Samsung has already patched 'dirty USSD' vulnerability for Galaxy S III
If you were worried about stumbling onto a malicious website and accidentally wiping your Samsung Galaxy S III or other TouchWiz smartphone or slate, you can probably breathe easy. It's likely you already have firmware on your device which isn't vulnerable to the so-called dirty USSD code, and if not, you can download it now, according to Samsung. The company issued the following statement on the matter: "We would like to assure our customers that the recent security issue concerning the Galaxy S III has already been resolved through a software update. Jessica Chastain takes another risk in her meteoric rise from obscurity
LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - From "Take Shelter" to "The Debt," Jessica Chastain is an actress who feeds off risks.
But in a still relatively young career that has seen her push the boundaries while working with demanding auteurs like Terrence Malick and Kathryn Bigelow, the Oscar-nominee is about to embark on her biggest challenge yet - taking on the iconic role of Catherine Sloper in a revival of "The Heiress."
The lonely spinster at the heart of the tragedy has been a favorite of actresses over the years, with the likes of Olivia de Havilland, Cherry Jones and Jane Alexander putting their indelible mark on the character. Chastain insists that despite making her Broadway debut in a play associated with such formidable women, she is not intimidated.
"I don't feel trepidation because what it shows is what an exquisite role Catherine is," Chastain told TheWrap. "There's no way my Catherine will be the same as Olivia de Havilland's Catherine or Cherry Jones' or Jane Alexander's. We're such different women with different sensibilities. I don't feel the nervousness of it, because I could never be the wonder that is them and I just have to find who Catherine is to me."
Still, Catherine, a plain-looking woman, who is dominated by her emotionally frigid father and manipulated by her caddish suitor, seems a physical stretch for the luminous Chastain.
Unlike say Jones, a powerful stage presence who is nonetheless severe looking, Chastain, with her fiery red mane of hair, alabaster skin and dazzling, fulsome smile is no one's idea of dowdy.
Mois?s Kaufman, the two-time Tony-nominated director and playwright who will be staging the revival, insists he was most concerned with finding an actress with the emotional intelligence to play Catherine.
"To me it was more important for the actress to be able to understand the sense of the character," Kaufman said. "We're in the theater. In the theater we transform ourselves. As long as you're true to the character than plain is in the eye of the beholder."
Previews begin on October 6 with the show set to open on November 1 for a limited run.
When TheWrap caught up with Chastain, she only had a week of rehearsals under her belt and admitted she was still finding her way to the character. Her co-stars - an august group that includes such theater and film veterans as two-time Tony winner Judith Ivey and Oscar-nominee David Strathairn along with "Downton Abbey" heartthrob Dan Stevens - insist that Chastain is already making the role her own.
"I think she's interested in finding this paper thin frailty that is wrapped around a steely core," Stevens, who is also making his Broadway debut in the play, told TheWrap.
For Ivey, who previously appeared in "Washington Square," Agnieszka Holland's 1997 film adaptation of the story, Chastain has begun to unveil a unique spin on the role.
"She is finding the gentility of this young woman and the ignorance of her in a way I've never seen it interpreted before," Ivey said.
The rewards for getting Catherine Sloper right are substantial. De Havilland won an Oscar for her portrayal of the heartbroken heroine, while Jones scored a Tony award. It's a role that charts Catherine's emergence from a timid creature, smitten with a man who only wants her for her money, to a colder and more calculating woman, who knows how to operate in an oppressive society.
Although "Washington Square," the Henry James novella that inspired the play, was written in 1880 and adapted for the stage in 1947, the revival's cast says that Catherine's nascent feminism will allow the play to stay fresh for a newer generation of theatergoers.
"I find her so modern," Chastain said. "It's shocking to me that this adaptation was written in the 1940s. For her at the end of the play to stand alone and believe it's OK not to be married - for 1940 to have a woman be independent in that way and make decisions without the influence of a man - I find that shocking. Thirty years from now, this story and this play will still be relevant."
When it comes to attracting a crowd, Chastain already has one thing in her favor - the curiosity factor. Of all the movie stars treading the boards on Broadway this fall, a group that includes Al Pacino and Katie Holmes, perhaps none is more hotly anticipated than Chastain. That's somewhat surprising given that she is relatively jejune to the New York theater scene. But, as Kaufman points out, Chastain spent four years at Julliard studying Chekhov and Shakespeare.
She has also appeared the 2006 Los Angeles Wadsworth Theatre production of "Salome" opposite Al Pacino and in the 2004 off-Broadway production of "Rodney's Wife" with Strathairn.
If she pulls off "The Heiress" it will be another triumph on Chastain's meteoric rise out of obscurity, a journey that began less than two years ago. Thanks to a remarkable string of performances in the likes of "Tree of Life" and "Coriolanus" capped off by an Oscar nomination for her work in "The Help," Chastain established herself as one of the hottest actresses in Hollywood, starring in eight high-profile films and doing voice work for the latest "Madagascar" sequel. She next appears in Bigelow's "Zero Dark Thirty," a true-life thriller about the hunt for Osama bin Laden.
With that run of success, it would be tempting for Chastain to double down on her film work, but the actress says she views her Broadway stint as more than just a one-off.
"I''m always going to do both theater and film, always," Chastain said.
"I love theater and I love the ensemble feeling of it. I love the community. I love being in New York. I love the idea of finishing a show and then seeing people from other shows and then all leaving for a late night dinner, but you know this is my first time so we'll see how it goes."

Warner Music veteran Cohen to leave company
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Warner Music Group executive Lyor Cohen will resign from the company this month after an eight-year tenure during which he steered the company through a revamp under new ownership and found success with artists from Cee Lo Green to Josh Groban.
Cohen joined Warner Music Group in 2004 and oversaw a restructuring of its recorded music division after investors led by Edgar Bronfman Jr. acquired the company from Time Warner Inc. He has served as chairman and CEO of recorded music since 2011. He will resign from the company effective September 30.
"While we understand his desire to move on to his next challenge, the enduring success of our recorded music division will serve as a great testament to the progress we've made during Lyor's time at WMG," Warner Music Group CEO Stephen Cooper said in a statement.
Cooper is a turnaround expert who took over day-to-day operations of the company last year, shortly after it was bought by Len Blavatnik's Access Industries in a $3.3 billion deal.
Cohen made his name as president of Def Jam Records from 1988 to 2002, signing acts such as DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince. He also developed rap pioneers including LL Cool J, Run DMC and the Beastie Boys.
A source close to Cohen said he was leaving Warner Music Group partly because he wanted to work more directly with musicians after spending recent years in a corporate management job.
In a memo to staff, Cohen said that he could not yet announce his next move but that it would involve "something where I can work my entrepreneurial muscles and partner with artists."
"I have always been an entrepreneur at heart. My happiest days in this business are those when I get to work directly on the development of artists," he wrote.
Under Cohen's stewardship, Warner owned the No. 1 label in the United States for four years between 2004 and 2010, the company said. Warner's recorded music business also rose to the world's third largest, from fourth, in 2007. Successful artists during the time ranged from Nickelback to Jason Mraz.
He also led the company's transition from physical to digital music.
In the company's announcement of his resignation, Cohen said: "To all the artists and employees who live and die for the music every day, and who personally sacrifice for the good of the creative process: 'keep on keepin' on' in the tradition of a company that respects and honors the artistic community."

Debate continues about whether Lindsay Lohan actually hit a man with her Porsche SUV early Wednesday morning, and the New York City Police Department has now released surveillance video showing the incident.
Lohan, 26, was trying to drive her 2010 Porsche Cayenne into a New York alley near her hotel early Wednesday. A crowd of people stood around the car, and a 34-year-old man later claimed Lohan hit him.? Reuters reported that the man was taken to Bellevue Hospital for treatment of a knee injury.
The videotape shows Lohan flashing her headlights as she slowly drives toward the group of people. It is not clear from the video whether the right bumper of her car touched the man. After her car passes, the man is seen running after Lohan's car yelling.
Law enforcement officials have said Lohan had not been drinking before or after the incident. As of late Wednesday, they were awaiting medical records to determine whether he was actually struck by the SUV.
Lohan then entered the Dream Hotel and was arrested when she came out at 2:30 a.m, the NYPD reports. She was booked, issued a desk appearance ticket, and released without bail.
The actress spoke out about the incident on Thursday.?
"A paparazzi sat on the hood of my friend?s car and they arrested me. It?s so absurd, completely unfair and unjust," she told HollywoodLife.com. "It?s just because it?s me ? it?s unfortunate."
"While some of the facts are still being gathered, it appears that this is much ado about nothing," Lohan's publicist Steve Honig said in a statement. "We are confident this matter will be cleared up in the coming weeks and the claims being made against Lindsay will be proven untrue."
Though she was released from formal probation in March of this year after being charged in 2007 with drunk driving and cocaine possession, the actress remains on informal probation until 2014 in connection with the theft of jewelry in 2011. According to Access Hollywood, the L.A. City Attorney's office has forwarded information about the incident to the relevant authorities. It's unclear if Lohan will be charged with a violation of probation.
In June, Lohan and her assistant were briefly hospitalized after?a different Porsche?driven by the actress?collided with a truck on the Pacific Coast Highway in Santa Monica, Calif. The actress was driving to the set of her Lifetime movie, "Liz & Dick," in which she plays late actress Elizabeth Taylor.

Paul Ryan Doesn't Mention Romney Video At NH Campaign Event ...

DOVER, N.H. (AP) ??Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan told New Hampshire supporters Tuesday that he and running mate Mitt Romney will put Americans back to work rather than encourage their dependency on government.

Ryan spoke in Dover a day after the release of a hidden camera video in which Romney claims that 47 percent of Americans ?believe they are victims? entitled to help from the government.
Romney offered no apologies for the remarks, made at a $50,000-a-plate fundraiser in Florida in May, and said they showed a contrast between President Barack Obama?s ?government-centered society? and his belief in a ?free-market approach.?
Ryan didn?t mention the video in New Hampshire, but he continued to emphasize the same theme, saying limited government and free enterprise has done more to help the poor and ?uplift people out of lives of dependency? than any other system.
?We?re worried about more and more people becoming dependent on the government than upon themselves, because by promoting more dependence, by not having jobs and economic events, people miss their potential,? he said.
Ryan, who initially touted the ?Ryan-Romney plan? before switching the order of the names, said while Republican ticket believes in a safety net to help those who truly can?t help themselves, the success of programs such as food stamps should be measured in terms of how many people are transitioned off the programs rather than enrollment figures.
?We shouldn?t be looking at people as if stuck in some station,? he said. ?We should look at every single human being in this country as people who are on their way to toward opportunity. If they?re not doing well right now, what is it we need to do to help them get back on their feet so they can make the most of their lives.
?We believe in equality of opportunity, not equality of outcome.?
Ryan spoke in a community center auditorium next to a large electronic sign showing the rising national debt and the share ?owed? by each American. He said that share has increased from $35,000 when Obama took office to $51,000 today, though he said both political parties are responsible.
Though Ryan took questions from audience members, many used the opportunity to simply praise him instead. Among those he called on was Jack Kimball, who resigned as New Hampshire GOP chairman last year minutes before a vote to remove him.
Kimball, a tea party leader who was criticized for lackluster fundraising and special election losses, implored Ryan to ?take the gloves off.?
?The country is thirsting for this, believe me,? he said.
