We?ve got another jam-packed weekend ahead and while Halloween is officially Wednesday night, for many families in the Tennessee Valley the action starts this weekend. Along with numerous Fall Festivals and Trunk or Treats, the whole family can enjoy Family Fright Nights at Lowry House (Fri-Sat) or for those looking for something a little scarier there?s the Trail of Fears Haunted Hay Ride at Dublin Park (Fri-Sat).

All Weekend: This weekend is THE weekend for many schools and churches to hold their final Fall flings. There are too many to narrow it down to just one festival so we encourage you to take a look at our Calendar and our Fall Activities Guide and pick the one that best fits your family?s budget and mood. Most are FREE, a couple are fundraisers but all are sure to be FUN.

Saturday, 10AM (Main Library) & 1 PM (Bailey Cove): Zombies, Vampires, Werewolves?nope, not scary. Snakes and spiders, now you?ve got my attention. See those creepy crawly things along with many others up close and personal at the Creepy Critters Live Animal Shows at both the Main library and the Bailey Cove library this Saturday. The program features arachnids, insects and snakes to illustrate that such undesirable critters serve an extremely important purpose to the environment. Participants will be allowed to get ?hands-on? with several animals. FREE and open to the public.

Friday-Sunday: Fantasy Playhouse Children?s Theatre is hosting this popular magic show again this year and if you have a magic lover in your home, this family-friendly show is a must! While it?s not free, it is pretty cheap. Tickets are $5 per person with a $3 processing charge per order (unless you are a season ticket holder). Tickets are still available for the Friday & Saturday evening (7PM) and Sunday afternoon (2PM) shows but don?t wait too long. Saturday afternoon is already sold out and the other shows might too.

Sunday, 12-5PM: It?s the last weekend for your family to enjoy the Scarecrow Trail, the hayrides and all the children?s garden has to offer and this Sunday ? it?s totally FREE. FREE admission with any donation of school supplies to the Free2Teach program. Supplies needed include: pencils, notebooks, folders, paper, crayons, etc.

Sunday, 11AM-5PM:FREE as long as you wear a costume! Activities including Mars Puppets, Space Spider Webs and Galactic Orbs and enter the costume contest* for a chance to win a trip to Space Camp? or Aviation Challenge?! Costume registration is from 11 a.m. ? 2 p.m. and contest begins at 2:30 p.m. under the Saturn V rocket. FREE admission for guests with costumes ($11/person without a costume).

Thursday-Saturday: We love this annual festival but don?t just take our word for it, the Southeast Tourism Society has named this event one of its Top 20 events for October 2012. Stories are told on the courthouse square in Athens and while you must purchase tickets for Friday and Saturday, Thursday night is totally FREE!

Saturday, 10AM-5PM:Are you one of those people for whom Christmas can?t come soon enough? Well then, this is the event for you. Bonnie Blue Boutique in Meridianville is holding their annual Christmas Open House (yes, I said Christmas) and they?ve got Santa and Mrs. Claus coming along with Jingles the elf. FREE to the public this event includes free pictures with Santa, Story Time with Mrs. Claus, Christmas Crafts with Jingles the elf, free fashion show, free refreshments, free gifts for the children.
