New Android apps worth downloading: imo messenger update, Vudu Movie Streamer, Cognitile

Get in touch with friends without wasting your minutes or texts this weekend with imo Messenger, which lets you makes calls or send messages using your Internet connection. Up next is Vudu Movie Streamer, which lets you stream TV shows and films to your Android devices, followed by Cognitile, a puzzle game that invokes a bit of an Indiana Jones vibe.

What?s it about? Instant messaging app imo messenger lets users send IMs, share photos and other content, and even make calls to other app users.

What?s cool? The app supports group messaging, so you can send stuff to multiple people at once and share a conversation, and is also capable of supporting audio and video sharing as well. The latest update to imo has improved the app?s tablet interface and now supports Google Talk logins.

Who?s it for? If you like getting your calls and texts for free (except for the cost of data usage), try checking out imo.

What?s it like? For other voice over Internet apps, try Skype or IM+ Pro.

What?s it about? Streaming video service Vudu brings movies and TV shows to users, fresh over the Internet, so you can watch them on your Android devices.

What?s cool? Lots of Blu-Ray movies tend to come with digital copies accessible through the Vudu service, so if you?ve got some, you can now stream those digital versions to your Android tablets and phones wherever you are. Vudu also lets you rent or buy digital versions of movies and TV shows to watch on your devices, and once you set up an account, you can stream those digital versions onto other devices ? such as an Xbox 360, Playstation 3 or computer.

Who?s it for? If you like streaming movies and TV shows, Vudu?s for you.

What?s it like? For subscribers, Netflix provides a lot of streaming movies and TV shows as well.

What?s it about? Top-down block puzzler Cognitile that focuses on avoiding traps by memorizing their patterns.

What?s cool? The grid-based play style of Cognitile will be familiar to lots of gamers, but with the fresh appeal of Indiana Jones-style booby traps. In each level, you?ll get a chance to watch each set of traps unraveling in order, then be required to remember their patterns in order to avoid falling to your death or some other nasty end. Cognitile includes 60 levels, and when you?re done with those, you can fire up the game?s level editor and create puzzles of your own for other people to solve.

Who?s it for? If you like tile-based puzzlers, or if you have a thing for Dr. Henry Jones Jr., give Cognitile a look.
